- Use non-toxic paints, markers, and glues for art projects
- Wash the child's hands in cool water only when his or her hands are dirty
- Minimize water play, natural clay projects, and other activities that dry the skin
- Maintain a comfortable room temperature and humidity level if possible
- Look for signs of emotional stress in children with eczema; implement quiet times and positive distractions when necessary
- Don't let the child get overheated. Talk to your doctor about how to cool down after active play periods
- Reassure other children and parents that eczema is not contagious
- Involve the child with eczema in all appropriate activities; never isolate him
