Start Healthy to Keep Skin Healthy
Keeping your skin healthy is your first line of defense against the itch of eczema (atopic dermatitis, or AD). Check with your doctor and keep the following in mind.
Daily bathing.
Make sure the temperature of your bath or shower is lukewarm rather than hot. When drying, it is important to pat, not rub, the skin. Rubbing increases irritation.
Moisturize.
Apply moisturizer when your skin is still damp after bathing. This will help lock in moisture and keep skin from drying out. Reapply as needed throughout the day. If you use moisturizers, apply them after Protopic Ointment.
Reduce perspiration.
Keeping your house at a moderate temperature can help minimize sweating during hot weather. Layer light blankets to avoid night sweating. Remember to bathe and apply moisturizer as soon as possible after exercising.
